(Recipe at the bottom of page)

Rice Cripsy edibles (or Rice Krispie edibles if you want to use a brand name) have to be one of the easiest edibles recipes to make.

True, they may lack sophistication.  But they are popular for a reason.  People love the flavor and crunch of these simple treats.  And for cannabis lovers, they are a simple to make edible that's easy to infuse with cannabis.

The treats also keep well and need no refrigeration.  That means they are easy to tote around for edibles on the go.  And unlike even gummies or hard candies, they might get a little sticky, but don't turn to liquid in hot temperatures.

If that's not enough, you can get get creative in a culinary way and make lots of variations on the basic recipe.  See below.  After all, the basic recipe is a fairly blank canvas, from a culinary perspective.

So have fun when making Rice Crispy edibles.  If you come up with any great new variations, be sure to share them in the comments below.

Ingredients for Making Rice Cripsy Edibles

The basic recipe for Rice Crispy Treats edibles is simple: Puffed Rice Cereal, Marshmallows, and cannabutter, with perhaps some regular butter as well, depending on dosing needs (see below).  You can also make these treats with coconut oil (again, see below).

For best results, get fresh marshmallows.  They just melt easier and work better in this recipe than old marshmallows that have been lying around.

For the cereal, you can always get it at the grocery store.  However, know that you can save money as you can usually find it at the dollar store.

I found the red, white and blue Rice Krispies used in the photo in the decorating section there.  They added a bit of color to my Rice Crispy edibles without any work on my part.  Kellogg's regularly comes out with seasonal and special edition cereals like this, so why not incorporate them into your edibles and give them a more festive look?

How to Add Cannabis to Rice Crispy Edibles

Rice Crispy treats contain butter, so it is super simple to swap out some or all of the butter in the basic recipe for cannabis infused butter.

For those trying to avoid butter, I you can swap out infused coconut oil for the more traditional butter.

Coconut oil works well for a butter-free alternative, but know that because of the gelatin used to make marshmallows, this will NOT be a vegan recipe, even if you do opt to make it with infused coconut oil.

Cannabutter and Cannaoil for Rice Crispy Edibles

As cannabutter or cannaoil form the backbone of the Rice Crispy Edibles recipes, be sure to have these on hand before beginning.  My tutorials will show you how to make them if you don't already know.

Using Concentrates to Make Rice Crispy Edibles

Alternately, you could use concentrates like kief, hash, rosins, hash oils, or FECO to medicate the recipe.

In this case, gently heat the butter or oil called for in the recipe and melt the concentrate into this before adding to recipe.  Melting the concentrate into the fat will help insure an even distribution of the cannabis.

Dosages for Cannabis Rice Crispy Treats

Each the Rice Crispy edibles portions in the recipes below will have about 25mg THC IF you made your cannabis butter or cannabis oil from average cannabis (10% THC) and used 1/2 ounce of marijuana to make 1 cup cannabis infused butter or coconut oil.

To adjust the dosage for your personal needs and to reflect the strength of the marijuana you are using and the amounts you used to make your infusion,   take my FREE 10 minute online Dosing Class that will teach you how to do it.  Even better, use my handy dosage calculator tools that do all the math for you (see below).

Decorating Rice Krispie Edibles

rice crispy edibles birthday cake

For a simple edible, cannabis rice crispy treats can be easily decorated for lots of different occasions.

One of the easiest ways is to use seasonal Rice Krispies cereal like in the Birthday Cake Rice Crispy Edibles photo above.  These were special Red, White, and Blue Rice Krispies that Kellogg's came out with for the 4th of July.  I found them a few months later at the dollar store.

Add any color to Cannabis Rice Crispy Edibles -- Even if you don't find special seasonal Rice Krispies, know that you can easily tint these edibles in a rainbow of colors.  All you need do is  mix in a few drops of food color to the melted marshmallow mixture, just before you add the cereal, in the recipe instructions below.

Make Shapes with Cookie Cutters -- The tiered Birthday Cake above and the Valentine's Day Rice Crispy edibles below were make with cookie cutters of graduating sizes.  For the birthday cake I stacked 3 flowers of descending sizes and put a candle on top.  A set of flower cookies cutters made it easy.

For the Valentine's Day Rice Cripsy edibles below, use heart cookie cutters and combine sizes by cutting out and filling the centers.

Drizzle in Chocolate -- For the Christmas Cannabis Rice Krispie treats below, drizzle the finished rice crispy treats with melted chocolate and sprinkle the tops with crushed peppermint candy canes.

Color and Shape -- To make the Halloween rice crispy edibles below, tint the mixture orange, then use buttered hands to shape into small balls while the mixture is still warm (work quickly).  Add a chocolate candy stem.
