Dear Cheri,
How much space does a marijuana plant need to grow?
This is a great question, but the answer depends on a lot of factors.
To large degree, it will grow in whatever space you give it. But there’s more to it than that.
In the video above, I brought in Cannabis Cheri’s grow editor, Mitch Mandell to help answer the question of how much space does a cannabis plant need to grow.
The first thing Mitch pointed out is you need to determine if you are growing indoors or outdoors.
Outdoor cannabis plants tend to grow wider and taller, so they need more space.
While professional growers might leave 8 feet between plants, you can get away with 2 to 3 feet between plants at home outdoors.
Indoors you will be limited by the size of your grow tent or grow area. But since you control every aspect of your indoor plants' existences you can grow them to any size you choose.

Some people like to grow many small plants their indoor grow tents. However, Mitch prefers to grow less plants of a larger size. He says it is less work than caring for more plants and you will get just as big a yield.
Mitch recommends:
For a 2X2 tent grow 1 sativa versus 2 indicas
For a 4X4 tent grow 2 sativas or 4 indicas
Be sure to use netting and spread the larger plant to fill the canopy and help more areas of the plant get better light exposure. But these are his recommendations for indoor growing.
