I want to use cannabis but am regularly drug tested for work, so I know that THC is out. My question is, does CBD show up in UA (urinary analysis)? Will CBD show up on a drug test?
Does CBD show up in UA? Not unless CBD is specifically requested to be tested for, which would be highly unusual. In fact you won’t even find any federal guidelines for testing CBD, despite its still murky legal status. So there is no worry in testing positive for CBD with a standard drug test.
Where you can run into problems is with CBD products that also contain THC. From a health perspective, these definitely offer the most benefit, but from the standpoint of drug testing, you are going to want to avoid those containing THC in any discernable amount.
That said, CBD from hemp legally can contain as much as 0.03% THC. This is a tiny amount which should not post a risk, unless you were consuming 1000s of milligrams of CBD per day, which would not be generally recommended. (Learn more about CBD Dosing here.)
So if you are using CBD hemp tinctures or products, this should not be a problem, assuming the product was made correctly and the labels are correct (which depending on the producer or where you bought your products, could potentially be an issue). However, if you are using a high CBD cannabis plant, know that this might contain enough THC to cause you to fail a drug test.
Hopefully, the government will get out of the way of health soon so this will no longer be an issue and people can use what is truly most beneficial.
