How to Make Cannabis MCT Oil Tincture

Dear Cheri

I saw the directions on your website for how to make cannabis tinctures with alcohol.  I am interested in making some MCT oil tincture.  Do you have instructions for this, or is it just a matter of infusing oil like you would for cooking?

The short answer is yes, it is just infusing oil, with a possible tweak.

For those who aren't familiar with it, MCT coconut oil is a healthy coconut oil that stays liquid at room temperature.  MCT stands for Medium Chain Triglycerides which is why this oil is considered so healthy.  MCT also makes great cannabis infusions.

Now tinctures made with oil are not technically "tinctures" by the dictionary definition, which would require them to be made with a solvent.  However, many people use cannabis infused MCT oil as a tincture and MCT oil "tinctures" are commercially available in both THC and CBD versions. So, for the purposes of this article we will use the term MCT oil tincture too.

Yes the process of making an MCT oil tincture is the same as you would infuse oil for cooking and making edibles.  This post will show you 4 foolproof ways to infuse oil.

Dosage for MCT oil tinctures

The only difference when infusing MCT oil to make a tincture is that you may want to make the dosage stronger.

When making recipes you will typically use much more infused oil than you will with a tincture where you might only want to use a few drops or a milliliter or less.  Making a stronger oil infusion will let you use less of it to get a proper dosage.

To learn more about dosages and how to calculate the dosages in tinctures, edibles, and topicals, pick up my $5.00 dosage calculators (see below), available online or as an app.  You will be able to get an accurate estimate of dose even when not using lab tested cannabis.  If you are using lab tested cannabis, your dosage calculations should be right on the money.
