Cheri Sicard was a professional food writer, recipe developer, and cooking instructor long before cannabis entered her life, so it was only natural she started cooking with marijuana after her doctor recommended it for a chronic condition. At the time there was little good information available so she penned The Cannabis Gourmet Cookbook, which took some of her most popular recipes and turned them into tasty medibles consumers can easily make at home. Soon Southern California medical marijuana dispensaries were calling on her to teach their patients about cooking with cannabis. In order to bring those skills to a larger audience, Cheri recently launched an online version of the consumer cooking class that includes 2 hours of video instructions and demonstrations, quizzes, resources and recipes.
Cheri’s second cannabis book, Mary Jane: The Complete Marijuana Handbook for Women (2015, Seal Press) is an accessible general guide to marijuana and the cannabis lifestyle that has helped scores of women come out of the cannabis closet.
Cheri writes Freedom Leaf Magazine’s monthly Medicated Munchies column, and her articles and cannabis recipes can be found in High Times, Civilized, Herb, and more. The Daily Beast even dubbed Cheri the “Martha Stewart of Weed.”
Cheri is also a long time dedicated marijuana activist. Of all the issues surrounding cannabis, it was the plight of prisoners serving life sentences for nonviolent marijuana offenses that most haunted her, and after advocating for these men for about three years on her own, she founded the nonprofit organization Marijuana Lifer Project in 2016.
Cannabis is just the latest adventure and passion in Cheri’s eclectic life. She spent her childhood and earlier years criss-crossing the country and the globe as a professional circus performer. As a young adult her mentalism act was a favorite at Hollywood’s Magic Castle and Cheri became an in-demand performer at exclusive Southern California parties and events. Along the way she began professional travel and food writing and penned 5 more books on a variety of topics (in addition to her 2 cannabis books). Cheri and business partner Mitch Mandell were also early internet entrepreneurs with the creation of FabulousFoods.com, one of the web’s top 10 recipe sites at the time of its sale to She Knows in 2009.
